Currently Mrs. Gibbons Fashion 2 class is working on finishing Mini-Dresses. Each student is given a board with three fabrics, a large range of various art supplies, and a self-carved stamp to complete this project.
Firstly all students are given a small rubber block to carve to make a custom stamp for the fabric. The design is entirely up to their interpretation and choice. Each stamp is personally made for each student, and once they finish they’re allowed to take it home.
Once the stamps are complete, the students get to paint their fabric with either watercolor or acrylic paint. Since there is no given theme, everyone who is working on the project can use whatever colors they want. As they paint the fabric, the stamps are used as a repetitive pattern.

“Students are working on creating a repetitive pattern on a textile, then jumping into their first experiences with fabric,” Mrs. Gibbons said.
The project gives students the opportunity to actively work with real fabric to create their own designs on mini-mannequins.
“I’d say the most interesting part was making the outfit itself,” Fashion 2 student Kimberly Hernandez said.
The process of creating something personal and unique serves as a fun project in any class. When the projects are finished, you’ll be able to find them in the displays in the art hallway.
