East Islip seniors and seniors all over the world have spent the first two months of the 2024-2025 school year preparing their college applications. The first deadline, November 1st, has passed and seniors have spent a lot of their time submitting applications.
It’s safe to say that most high school seniors who completed their applications through “Early Action” – applying early to receive an earlier decision – can relate that it was a major accomplishment for them and a moment to be proud of.
The application process can be stressful. Students have to start their essays right at the beginning of the year, request and get recommendation letters, and determine where they want to study and what their major might be. But the feeling of pressing the submit button and applying is an unforgettable moment.
East Islip senior Alyssa Charles felt this moment in the fall. “After my completion of early action it made me really think about how much I have accomplished over the past four years in high school,” she said. “The process of writing down my grades, extracurriculars, and my personal essay reminded me that I am successful no matter what I do.”
Seniors did not have to do it all on their own. They also got support from their school counselors throughout the process. East Islip Counselor Mr. Boehler sees this every year with his seniors.
“Many of our seniors stated they were excited and relieved to finally hit the submit button on their applications this year. I’ve often heard from seniors saying they were happy they came back to senior year prepared to fill out their college applications.”
If you are not prepared to apply to schools through Early Action, there are more application deadlines throughout the year. Every college is different, so it is important to do your research.
College can be a very financially difficult burden for families, so it is important to apply to as many scholarships as you can. Mr. Boehler also mentioned that local scholarship applications will be sent out on Student Square this month.
Acceptance letters are already coming in and soon, seniors will make their final decision on where they want to go.
