The Broadcaster is BACK!
This phrase has a whole new meaning than it did back in June of 2022 when Tristan Hearth (EIHS Class of 2023) included that in the first article we published under our new format.
That year, being “back” meant simply that after a number of years without a newspaper at all, East Islip once again had a school newspaper club. We weren’t sure what our newspaper would look like and, after a while, we tried a move from a traditional print format to a news site that is designed for student journalists. We put together a small (but mighty!) staff of writers who were interested in the idea and published a few stories.

Now, for the fifth year, The Broadcaster is once again back, but what that means has changed so much. We are back with a staff that features experienced writers who have been with us multiple years. The club is now supplemented by a Journalism elective that has run for the second year in a row and is open to students grades 9-12. We even attended the “Quill Awards” last year at Adelphi University’s Press Day and took home two awards!
The best part about The Broadcaster being back? You can be part of it, too.
We welcome new writers of all ages and abilities at any point during the year. Don’t have any ideas? We do! Don’t know where to start? We can help! Don’t want to join by yourself? Bring a friend or make some new ones at our meetings!
