Christopher Nolan is a British American film director who gained popularity from his first film Memento in 2000. He is well known for his creative visual effects and complex storytelling. Christopher Nolan has had many successful movies since the first movie he made such as Inception, The Dark Knight trilogy, and Interstellar and has won two academy awards. He is the 7th highest grossing film director of all time according to IMDb.
The Dark Knight (2008)
The Dark Knight follows Batman played by Christian Bale a few years into his career as Batman and he comes across the Joker played by Heath Ledger. This film does an interesting job at taking a strong character like Batman and makes him feel almost powerless when it comes to him going against the Joker. We see Batman start to question himself and his mission due to the Joker’s unpredictable actions to the city and the people he cares about.
Oppenheimer (2023)
The film Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy is based on real events during World War 2 and follows the real life person Robert Oppenheimer who was responsible for the research and design of the atomic bomb that was used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This film is shot from Robert Oppenheimer’s perspective and you really get to see what Oppenheimer and his peers went through to get this weapon of mass destruction created. The film really focuses on Oppenheimer’s moral compass. He knows how much of a scientific breakthrough the atomic bomb would be, but at the same time inventing this creation will be responsible for the deaths of thousands of people.
Interstellar (2014)
Interstellar is a science fiction film that follows a group of astronauts. They go onto a dangerous mission to a wormhole that is near Saturn to research a new planet for humanity. Nolan dives into themes of sacrifice and the survival of the human race and really puts all the pressure onto this group of characters. Nolan makes sure to show all the complex scientific concepts people would imagine in their head while showing amazing backdrops and visuals of space. This film is respected by many because of its accurate depiction of space.
Inception (2010)
Inception is another science fiction film that Nolan produced and it is known as one of the most confusing and mind-bending movies ever made. The film revolves around a skilled thief named Dom Cobb who in this movie is able to steal secrets from within the subconscious of the dream state. He is offered to be forgiven for his past crimes if he plants an idea into someone’s head known as “inception.” In this movie, Nolan shows the thrilling concepts of dream states and different realities in the mind.
Tenet (2020)
Tenet is also a science fiction film and also an action thriller film that follows the main character who is referred to as “The Protagonist” who has to travel through time to prevent a global catastrophe. This film is a very unique and different time travel movie than what most people are used to seeing. Nolan uses the concept of time inversion where people and objects can move backward in time. This movie has mind bending action sequences and its intricate plot and way of telling the story.
