Last Friday, the first overall seed East Islip Varsity Football team dominated Northport in the second round of the playoffs winning by a score of 28-0 and now move on to the Division 2 Suffolk County Championship.
East Islip dominated from start to finish, going into half with a 21-0 lead and adding another score in the second half to seal the 28-0 victory. The team was led by performances from some of their star players. Jake Simmons rushed for 176 yards and both Nico Meyers and Eddie Simonetti scored two touchdowns.
“Northport was in the way of us achieving higher heights,” senior Benjamin Hillenbrand said. “They were a challenge but that’s the risk we were willing to take to achieve what’s ours.”
“They worked extremely hard during the week,” Coach Sconone said. “Their preparation combined with a great opportunity led to their ultimate success.”
They also played an amazing regular season with their record being 7-1. They will be going against Half Hollow Hills, who had a regular season record of 6-2, in the Division 2 County Championship this Saturday. They beat East Islip in their first matchup, so the game will be sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
The finals will take place at LaValle Stadium at Stony Brook University this Saturday November 22 at 6pm. You can purchase tickets for the game at gofan.co for $9.40 each.
