This fall many different clubs and organizations at East Islip High School helped out with the annual food drive to help those less fortunate who are not able to afford Thanksgiving dinner.
The National Honor Society as well as S.T.A.R.S club, World Language Honor Society, Leaders Club, SADD, Student Government, Interact Club, and Key Club collaborated in this process.
The drive has been around for many years. Mrs. Ingram, the advisor of National Honor Society explains, “when I was in high school, we were doing the drive” and the community “never ever ceases to amaze [me]… there’s always an overabundance of generosity” when it comes to the fall food drive.
Flyers were placed by club members around East Islip from November 14th to the 17th. Community members placed food on the edge of their driveway before pickup on November 20th. Foods like canned green beans, canned corn, canned gravy, mac and cheese, and any other non-perishable food were donated and collected.
“One house we went to had five turkeys out,” said historian of National Honor Society Ashley McAdam. “It was crazy, but it was so much fun. We went back to school with three trunks full and it was really like it was so surprising to see how much food.”
The food drive was a huge success and you’ll have the opportunity to donate again next year!
